I feel you on that! I live in Ottawa (which isn't nearly as large or busy as NYC) but I recently moved to the city centre after a year and a half of living in the suburbs and the world of difference it has made in my happiness levels and on my transportation costs is amazing. I no longer have to bus for an hour to go to Walmart or the bank (I can just walk). Even if it is cheaper to live in the suburbs, the benefits of city life are just immeasurable.
